The idea of “turning pro” has been racing through my mind as of late. What separates someone who is committed to a life of excellence? It seems as though it’s their ability to rise above the suffering through labor and love.
Part of the reason why many of us struggle to follow this journey is our fixation on worldly success. Rewards don’t come quick enough, and we fail to sacrifice pleasurable actions rather than devoting ourselves to habits and skills needed to excel in our work.
In deliberate practice, which involves experimentation and iteration, we will not only see progression in skill and a strengthening of fortitude, there will also be a sense of inner peace as we uncover our “true voice”.
Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity. – Lao Tzu
